We’re thrilled to announce primping press, an indie publisher of works surrounding LGBTQIA+ fashion, etc.

primping press, shepherded by jj rowan, is ready to build a collection of innovative queer microfashion creations that explore the DIY zine spirit and rip the stitches on what chapbooks can do: let us introduce scrap swap and chapbook couture!

scrap swap

scrap swap is a creative info-share zine project seeking to spread the love and the knowledge through savvy lo-fi design. these single-page publications could be folded zines, tri-fold pamphlets, or even flyer-style, and aim for the perfect pairing of creativity and information.

we’re seeking text-based work that shares a skill or distributes information on all things queer fashion. what have you learned that you want to pass down to queer youth? what sacred knowledge do you want to leave in the pockets of your trans beloveds’ jackets? what do you wish someone had offered to teach you that you had to get scrappy to learn? send us tutorials in verse, reflect on queer closet essentials in a list poem, show us the joy of darning your favorite derby socks, etc.

on a rolling basis we are considering short works, longer works that could be excerpted, and proposals. we can only consider text-based submissions at this time (no art or photographs). have an idea you’re still piecing together? let’s talk about it!

chapbook couture

chapbook couture is our special edition series where chapbook meets art object, a place for projects that don’t fit on the dress form. these handmade editions will be something you want to pick out an outfit to read.

we’re seeking proposals for work in any genre on any aspect of queer fashion, especially work that invites innovative design in the chapbook form. send us manuscripts, mood boards, and big dreams. have a queer fashion passion you don’t know how to envision in chapbook form? let’s talk about it!

on a rolling basis we are considering chapbook-length written and visual works. we cannot consider full-length manuscripts at this time. with your work, please include your own reflections on what you imagine for its physical form. be bold, we want to dream with you.

when submitting to both scrap swap and chapbook couture, please remember that primping press is an imprint of just femme & dandy. the best way to ensure this is a potential home for your work is to review our “about” page, read past issues (free on our website!), and consider your work’s relationship to LGBTQIA+ fashion (which we consider an enormous walk-in closet of possibility!).
